San Pedro Engagement - San Pedro, CA - Izzy + Joe

A few months ago, I got to hang out with Izzy + Joe in San Pedro for an engagement shoot whirlwind! These two brought me to one of their favorite, secluded hikes with a couple of beers + their bikes and we had THE BEST TIME. When you think of engagement photos you may think of overdone, mass-manufactured props and awkward poses but I believe that your engagement is way more than that, so your engagement photos should DEFINITELY be way more than that. If you’ve been considering hiring your teenage cousin who “just got a really good camera” or not getting engagement photos done at all, simply because you don’t want the predictable, cookie-cutter images I’m here to tell you: it doesn’t have to be that way!

You absolutely CAN get professional photos that feel genuine and fun! Izzy and Joe’s San Pedro engagement shoot is a perfect example of that. The images we crafted together on what felt like the edge of the world weren’t predictable or overly posed - they really reflect Izzy + Joe’s sweet, funny, down-to-earth vibe. When these two laugh, they laugh with their ENTIRE bodies and they’re truly so amazing to be around ( I’m counting down the days til their September wedding!) Since Izzy + Joe are involved in biking, along with lots of their close family, so they brought their bikes to the trail. I love incorporating elements that are distinctly personalized to each individual couple instead of something generic because when you look back on those photos, they’ll mean SO much more than a prop I could have handed to any couple on the street. Choosing a meaningful location is another great way to make engagement photos really fun! Izzy + Joe chose this rad spot, where they’ve so many weekends hiking and hanging out. If there’s a spot out there that happens to be a mutual favorite of yours and breathtakingly gorgeous, do your shoot there!

If you’re curious about the engagement shoot process, here it is:

First, we’ll collaborate on location ideas + nail down a date + time that works for all of us (weekdays are recommended for minimal crowds).

Next, you’ll reserve your session with a contract + retainer, and then I’ll send over helpful information like outfit guides and tips for rocking your engagement shoot!

The day of the session, we’ll meet up for coffees or cocktails and I will  third-wheel my way into your hearts. For the next hour and a half, you’ll be your authentic, amazing selves (with a bit of direction from me) while I capture a bunch of photos you really see yourself in - not just a plastered smile for the camera.

Meeting the person you’re going to commit your life to is no easy feat - you’ve undoubtedly been through victories, challenges, and everything in between. So why not honor this era - the story of your life together - through images that really reflect your unique personalities, the places you love, and most importantly, your relationship. Your wedding day will include portraits of you two, of course -- but an engagement session is more casual, SUPER fun, and gives you a chance to showcase your relationship beyond your wedding day.
