Woodsy Roswell Georgia Wedding - Tara + Thomas

a woodsy roswell wedding

On a warm weekend in October, Tara and Thomas had a gorgeous, minimalist wedding ceremony at a historic Roswell park, followed by the sweetest dinner with close friends and family! These two are truly two people that love + serve their community with so much heart. It was so special to be back in Georgia + document this sweet Southern elopement for these two!

Tara - an elementary school teacher - and I met way back in middle school! It's incredible to have watched her become such a light in the lives of so many. She's always had the most contagious laugh, and it was such a joy hearing it again as I got the chance to photograph her and Thomas' wedding day. She made the most stunning bride!

We started off in a historic park near Roswell that we somehow had nearly all to ourselves! Roswell is a suburb of North Metro Atlanta in Fulton County, located about 30 miles north of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport. Light flittered in through tall trees and a creek in the background set the tone for such a peaceful and private ceremony.

A close friend of the couple officiated the wedding. This is one of my own favorite ways to personalize your wedding! The words carry a little differently when they’re said with the love and intention a friend or family member may have. Not to mention - your ceremony photos have a loving, familiar face in them, making it that much sweeter.

Once the rings and vows had been exchanged and the newlyweds said “I do,” the most gorgeous golden light peeked between the leaves, radiating all around them as the just-married couple kissed for the very first time. After their ceremony, we explored the historic park and took more photos! For two people that spend weekends hiking and kayaking along Georgia’s Chattahoochee River and the north Georgia mountains, the spot couldn’t be more fitting.

I love using natural settings for detail backdrops - it adds so much context and a truly unique perspective to wedding detail shots! The stone staircase that led to the ceremony location was great. The fallen leaves were so appropriate for an October wedding (even if it was sweltering and humid at the time!), and I loved the way their rings really popped against the dark stone.

newlywed photos at roswell town square

Friends and family gathered at a restaurant called The Mill in downtown Roswell to join in celebration of the newlyweds. Before the dinner began Tara and Thomas' families gathered for group photos in the square. I loved that the families still got some special time with the newlyweds before being clamored with well-wishes for all, but Tara and Thomas also got a very private ceremony - the best of both worlds!

An intimate wedding dinner at Roswell restaurant, The Mill Kitchen & Bar

Tara and Thomas’ warm October wedding day ended with celebrations at The Mill Kitchen and Bar, one of downtown Roswell’s best restaurants. Upstairs in a private room, close friends and family cheered the newlyweds on! It was such a heartfelt finish to an incredible day.
